WDM stands for Wavelength Division Multiplexing. What he did is a fiber optic camera in the amount of Discrete light wavelength (color). Each wavelength (color) is an independent channel running at data rate 2.5 Gbit / s, 10Gbit / s, 40Gbit /'s or even 100Gbit /'s (still in development).
